What type of curriculum will the students follow?
Students will be tested to determine general proficiency in English, Science, and Mathematics; any student demonstrating a deficiency will receive tutorial services. In addition to core subject tutorials, students will receive instruction in the following areas: Developing Test-Making Skills, Developing Leadership Skills, Developing Problem-Solving Skills, Developing a Positive Mindset, Handling Peer Pressure, Handling Anxiety and Stress, Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur, Setting and Achieving Goals, Setting Priorities, and Making Good Decisions. Group projects and homework will be key components of the curriculum.
What is the class schedule for the Leadership Academy?
Classes will be held thrice weekly, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for a (4)-week period. Time slots of 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM with 5 hours reserved for instruction and 1 hour for lunch and breaks. The dates and times are subject to change based on our host location.
What are the benefits of program participation?
Please see our Program Highlights. Students will also have the opportunity to receive mentorship and ongoing enrichment for as long as they stay engaged with the program. They can continue through their high school years and then become an Ambassador during their college years which will allow them to continue to receive enrichment and leadership opportunities.
Are there any requirements beyond the Summer Academy?
Students who complete the program and enroll at a partner college or university will be required to "give back" by volunteering at Vanguard, helping with recruiting and administrative duties. Students who land jobs with partner companies will be expected to financially support Vanguard and to encourage others to do likewise.
