Dr. M. Alicia Bennett, NCSP

Dr. M. Alicia Bennett is a trained mental health professional who has worked as a practitioner (school psychologist) in Maryland from 2000-2015, serving students ages 3 through 21. Subsequently, Dr. Bennett served in various Leadership capabilities (2015-2022), including the roles of Supervisor and Coordinator of the Office of Psychological Services, and currently serves as a Community School Facilitator at an elementary school (January 2022-present) in the 3rd largest school system in the state of Maryland and 22nd largest school system in the United States. Within the past 20+ years, when her primary work was with the Office of Psychological Services, she served as an adjunct instructor of Psychology at Anne Arundel Community College for a brief period.

Dr. Bennett's recent achievements are a testament to her professional growth and impact. She was honored by the Office of Psychological Services with recognition in the form of an inaugural award in her name (the Dr. M. Alicia Bennett Excellence in Equity Award) to continue the important work of equity she started within the Office. Furthermore, she was appointed by the Maryland Speaker of the House of Delegates to the BOOST (Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today) Advisory Board under the Maryland State Department of Education, a significant recognition of her expertise and influence.

Dr. Bennett holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Johnson C. Smith University, a master's in school psychology, and a doctorate in educational psychology. Both graduate degrees are from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a national certification in school psychology and a certification in Administration.

Dr. Bennett's personal life is as vibrant as her professional one. She prioritizes mental health and well-being by promoting and practicing self-care. Her involvement in multiple ministries at her church, membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and her role as a Keynote Speaker on Mental Health and Well-being for the MD State's Attorney's Association Conference reflect her diverse interests and commitments. In her leisure time, she cherishes moments with her beloved husband, daughter, and son, and enjoys the company of a healthy number of life-long family friends.
