Our mission is to propel underserved students to reach their highest potential and to provide learning and leadership opportunities to each student we serve. We firmly believe that every student deserves the chance to explore, learn, and grow, and we are committed to creating a nurturing environment that fosters their personal, academic, and professional development.

Vanguard Leadership Academy's founder Hilliard Castilla and co-founder M. Gino Brogdon Sr. are passionate about nurturing the potential of every young person they encounter; especially the overlooked, underserved students who have been left behind and counted out. Gino's inspiring journey, combined with Hilliard's personal experiences, underscored the critical role of having individuals who recognize and nurture one's potential, laying the foundation for the birth of Vanguard Leadership Academy.

Our current educational system tends to emphasize the high-achieving and struggling students, often overlooking those who quietly navigate under the radar, neither noticed nor challenged. These students often tread the path of minimal effort, concealing their untapped potential, waiting for the right person to recognize them and invest time, attention, and necessary tools to unlock the greatness within.

To that student eagerly anticipating a moment of recognition and care, we want you to know that we see you! With the collaboration of dedicated school social workers, counselors, and community leaders our goal is to draw these students out of the shadows, acknowledge their potential, and provide the support needed to unleash the remarkable abilities they possess.
